CESA Tool
Climate and Energy Scenario Analysis tool (CESA)
Blue Strike’s approach to scenario analysis allows our clients to conduct detailed analysis of different investment scenarios based on existing, planned, and future carbon mitigation measures, such as capital improvements, energy and water management, solid waste and transportation, etc. Suites of user defined programs and/or projects can be prioritized based on financial performance (incl., Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return), as well as other key performance metrics (KPIs), and the CESA tool and processes allow for tracking of program and/or project performance after implementation.
What the CESA tool does:
The tool allows users to build scenarios and generate results, which can help answer questions such as:
What is the projected Net Present Value (NPV) of a suite of energy efficient and renewable projects?
How much energy will a suite of energy efficient projects save in kWh and therms?
Does it make more sense to finance energy efficient projects or enter into Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)?
Under the current scenario and assumptions, what are the projected emissions in year X?
How many kWh will the City use in year X?
What happens if energy efficient projects and renewable projects are implemented with cost overages of 20%? 40%? What happens if they underperform by 15%?
What are the costs and savings associated with Energy Use Intensity (EUI) improvements for new capital projects?
Figure 1 below is an example of the CESA Tool used to calculate greenhouse gas savings for the University of Colorado Boulder.
